May Peace Be Upon You

Introduction

In 229 days from when this journal was created, the writer, “خير”, will إن شاء الله (inshaAllah) already be in Damascus. It has always been the writer’s dreams to study the Arabic Language in Syria. Follow the writer in this blog as the writer pursues the dreams of a lifetime…

Much has been said about the writer’s decision to embark on this would-be life changing journey. The writer would have to leave family and work behind to pursue this. Well, it won’t be forever, but looking at the current gloomy economic situation around the world, the writer must be quite an adamant person. The writer would have to quit at the current place of work as there would be no way to get at least 12 months of leave!

Why Syria? Why Damascus? Yes, Why? The writer did quite a bit of research before finally deciding that Damascus is the best choice among a few places in the Middle East which had been singled out during the initial “Evaluation Process”. Haa..it sure sounds serious!

Damascus is one of the lands where Prophets (may peace and blessings be upon them all) had walked on before. Rich in history dating back to 6000BC, it can be called a cradle of civilization as well. Syria is also a country most misunderstood. Travellers who have made their way there and experienced one of the most hospitable people in the world, will refute this, of course.

Notes: InshaAllah means “If God wills it”, and is used throughout the Muslim world especially in the Middle East.
Dimashq or دمشق‎ in Arabic is how the capital of Syria is pronounced in Arabic.
