Snow Day December 19, 2010

Last Sunday it snowed in Damascus and the near countryside the whole day! SubhanaAllah…it had been ages since there is heavy snow in Damascus. Really everywhere in Syria there was rain, starting on the day before (Saturday). And the previous day (Friday), after Friday prayers, all the masjids in Syria held Salat Istisqa’ (Prayer to ask for rain). Verily Allah is most generous. الله كريم

As early as a week ago, the weather had been very dry, with no sign of rain. I remembered rain was in early October, for a good half an hour only, and that was it…no rain the following months… The people of Damascus begin to worry at the unusually late coming of winter. We waited and waited, but no sign of winter….

Until last week, when it rained 3 days straight….and the usually dusty Jabal Qasiyoun (Qasiyoun Mountain), turned into Jabal Abyad (White Mountain)…

Alhamdulillah……… :)

yes, alhamdulillah…we had fun seeing the snow, a real surprise really, mashaAllah. My camera was not with me that week, and I only managed to snap pictures with my handphone which didn’t turn out very well :( ….
