Peace Be Upon You…
With every episode, there is a beginning.
And also an end.
With a heavy heart, as my time is up, I left Damascus.
Goodbye ya Shaam al Barakah….goodbye my teachers and all my friends.
In reality I have left you, but spiritually I am attached to you.
Alhamdulillah I have been given this chance by Allah SWT to live in Damascus…although for just a part of my life.
May Allah SWT accept from us all our deeds.

Snow Day December 19, 2010
Posted by globetrekkerdiaries in Uncategorized.6 comments
Last Sunday it snowed in Damascus and the near countryside the whole day! SubhanaAllah…it had been ages since there is heavy snow in Damascus. Really everywhere in Syria there was rain, starting on the day before (Saturday). And the previous day (Friday), after Friday prayers, all the masjids in Syria held Salat Istisqa’ (Prayer to ask for rain). Verily Allah is most generous. الله كريم
As early as a week ago, the weather had been very dry, with no sign of rain. I remembered rain was in early October, for a good half an hour only, and that was it…no rain the following months… The people of Damascus begin to worry at the unusually late coming of winter. We waited and waited, but no sign of winter….
Until last week, when it rained 3 days straight….and the usually dusty Jabal Qasiyoun (Qasiyoun Mountain), turned into Jabal Abyad (White Mountain)…
Alhamdulillah………

The title above means “Misunderstanding”.
I want to share something which I will never forget. Well, at least until something more hilarious happens.
It happened about 7 months ago during my trip to Aleppo (حلب) with some friends. We were about to have dinner at the rooftop of a backpackers’ hotel in Halab…when a guy from a European country approached us (I won’t mention which country).
He started to chat but since I was sitting at the outer part of the dining table, he seemed to speak to me more. Anyways, my friends and I were actually very tired. My friends answered his questions in monosyllables while I, more.
And then he spoke some Arabic. Seriously, he had good pronunciation of the Arabic letters, so I commended him by saying, “Your makharij al huruf is very good!”
And then suddenly this guy raised his voice slightly and said…..
“WHAT IS THIS?? YOU JUST KNEW ME AND YOU CALL ME A KHARUF ?!!(sheep).”
It was such a funny but tense situation and one of my friends who understood English started to look puzzled. Me too, but then I answered, “You got me wrong, Brother. I said ‘Huruf’, not ‘kharuf’. Huruf means letters. I was saying your pronunciation of Arabic letters is very good.”
And that guy turned red and started apologising….
“Sorry, I’m sorry I am not really very good in Arabic…sorry I misunderstood”.
And he went on and on…and finally he invited us all for coffee later in the night. But we thanked him, and told him we had to retire early for the night as we will be continuing our sojourn to visit castles around Halab the next day…
So, that is my story on miscommunication. Have you any similar ones?
Alhamdulillah, I’ve got a new home…. November 26, 2010

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu
Peace Be Upon You…it’s been such a long time and I have lots to share, but so little time to spend in the CC (Cyber Cafe). So today, I decided that I’d do a quick post. I have moved! Yes, I finally moved. I was very sad to leave my housemates in my former house, but inshaAllah, this new home will benefit me as well.
This new place where I moved to a week ago, is not new. It is an old Arabic House, with 5 rooms, 2 kitchens, a woody balcony and a huge courtyard. My bed is in a room at a corner, and I share it with 4 other girls. What is nice here is the fact that I am living with native Arabic speakers, so I get to hear the language all day, and I have no choice but to speak the language
Only me and an Indonesian sister are from Asia, the rest, which forms a majority, are from all over Syria.
Here’s a little picture to share. And inshaAllah, I will try to post more in future.
By the way, a fat cat sashayed out from the kitchen just now. As an Arabic house has an open roof, so..you can imagine how happy those stray cats are..but alhamduliLLAH, it has never been a problem. Just that we must not forget to close our room door, or else, one might come back home and find…..

Peace Be Upon You…
I was recently at the Tekkiye Sulaimaniye or also known as the Silver Souq (Souq Fiddoh), when I came across artists at work. I was particularly interested in the art called, “Ajame” where artists, painstakingly paint art pieces onto frame, or treasure boxes, tables and even decorative tablets. Islamic arts is incorporated as no depiction of animals are visible and also, verses from The Glorious Quran is also incorporated at times. Here are some pictures I managed to snap…

The trees seem to hang sadly…
As I pack my bags to leave this blessed land…
I shudder…. and stop my imagination. Alhamdulillah, I am still not leaving yet.
But I do think about the day when I will leave one day….how will I be…to leave this place where i’ve called home for more than a year…
I’ll miss the lessons
I’ll miss the sounds of Adhan
I’ll miss my friends
I’ll miss my halawiyat (sweetmeats)
I’ll miss exploring the Old City again and again
I’ll miss Damascus
Terribly…
For now, I’m glad I’m still here…and will be here till its time for me to leave. Allah SWT knows best.
Damascus and me says a big SALAM to all my family and friends in سنغافورة

The day I lost my way
As usual I took the Dawar Shamaly service and then took Bus 35 to get to Kafar Sousseh. It had been 4 months since I rode the 35 bus because I didn’t teach English during Summer…
And with me, was just 35 lera Syria. I was planning to withdraw money from the ATM at Kafar Sousseh when I got there.
When the bus went past Jami3 Rifai’e, I felt something was not right…So I asked the girl beside me, and she said the bus DOES NOT go to Kafar Sousseh. So, I alighted. And I walked…I walked all the way back to Dawar Kafar Sousseh…a good 20 minutes walk. And then it started. I thought I could figure out finally and that I would end up where I wanted to be…but I didn’t.
Asked a lady along the street, and she gave me directions. But she reiterated, it was a DISTANCE away.
I looked at my watch, it was 4.30pm…I still have time…so I decided to follow her directions…till I came to a junction…where I felt lost than lost.
At the junction, there were 2 beautiful Somali sisters and a Somali brother. I asked if they spoke Arabic…and of course they did: beautifully, mashaAllah. So the Somali sister gave me directions, and so did the brother. Again, they reiterated that where I wanted to go was quite a walk away. I decided to follow their directions.
About 5 minutes into walking…I heard a taxi sounding its horn. I didn’t pay any heed to it, as it is normal here for vehicles to sound their horn like “the road belongs to them”…Then the horn sounded again, and next I heard a male voice….
“Yalla ta3i ma3an!”
SubhanaAllah…it was the Somali guy, and the 2 sisters…they told me to get on board as they were on their way to Masakin Barzeh…and I wanted to go to Damasquino…
Alhamdulillah…
I end this post with…: As our beautiful religion teaches us: Never fail to help others in need, even in little things. Because Allah will send his help when you need it…

Just an update of what it is like here in Damascus…for the past few days, the weather has been milder and yesterday, it rained! For a good 1 hour it rained…and today, the temperature was a soothing 23 degrees celsius.
Alhamdulillah, thank you Allah for the 4 seasons that you bestow us. SubhanaAllah.

Goodbye “facebook”
It is a shame it took me such a long time
To finally realise
It is doing me more harm than good
It’s time you realise too
How many times have you surfed around the site

An Open Letter July 26, 2010
Posted by globetrekkerdiaries in Uncategorized.2 comments
An Open Letter to all my Sisters in Islam.
And of course to all my sisters in Humanity too.
Dear Beloved Sister,
Peace Upon You and may you be in the best of state and in the blessings of God the Most Merciful the Most Gracious.
Lately it has always been in my thoughts, how lucky we are to be born as a woman and our status as women.
However many women don’t realise this. They degrade themselves with their own “hands” and behaviour.
Women “dressed to kill”. Women exposing parts of their bodies without any hint of shame. Women championing their cause for “When you’ve got it, flaunt it.”
Women, falling for the devil’s trap:- “Don’t be so old fashioned…covering up are for old grandmothers.”
My dear sisters…Chastity and modesty are not things of the past. It’s time we realised, how precious we are. We are much more precious than any gems in the world.
My dear sister, when we “show off” parts of our skin in public,it’s only us who are at the losing end…
We want these comments don’t we?
“Smooth skin you’ve got there…”
“Ample chest…slim thighs…”.
You name it. I won’t say more.
What do all these equal too? Aren’t we being walking objects? Where every eyes that see us will comment on our bodies. And those who are really evil will even lay their hands on these “walking objects of desire”.
What’s more saddening is when we know it is not right to be wearing such clothes, but we still wear them.
- “Ah..nevermind, I’m still young. I want to flaunt it.”
- “I will cover up when I’m older.”
- “What? Cover up? It’s so old fashioned.”
- “All my friends are “modern-looking” with such trendy clothes, why should I not be part of them?”
We are really in denial. Knowing that we don’t have such a long time on this earth, and yet we are doing things that contradict our Faith and principles. Thinking that we will die only when we are old.
Death does not know the meaning of young or old. Everyday the Angel of Death visits us. Waiting to take us, upon instruction. And how many times, do we always wake up in the morning, not realising that God has given us another day to stop being in denial.
Ya Allah, forgive us all our sins and lead us to the Straight Path. Ameen.
سبحنك الله و بهمده
Friendship June 7, 2010

Friendship
It is indeed a blessing from God when we have friends around us. Without them, life certainly feels lonely. However, who are those whom we can exactly call us our friend?
Mirror mirror on the wall, who is the friend that is worth all?
We are actually mirrors for each other. We only would befriend those whom we are attracted to, and most of the time, the pulling factor would be their character. Well maybe, there are some who are driven to befriend someone because of their outer shell i.e. their looks or how they carry themselves…but in the end, once we know the person’s character, it would be the determining factor whether the friendship will flourish or will be terminated (sometimes even suddenly).
A Friend in Need is a Friend Indeed.
Have you ever pondered on what this famous phrase means? Just who is a friend in need? Does such a person exists at all? Well, personally I think, they do…and they exist in our lives. Have you ever figured, friends=happy times. But have you ever thought friend=sad times? Well, what I’m trying to say is, we should be friends sincerely. Our lives does not always go as planned. Allah SWT is the best of planners. This is when the test comes.
Are you going to be there when you are needed?
Thank You Allah May 21, 2010

Aku bersyukur, Ya Allah
Di atas segala nikmatMu
Aku bersyukur, Ya Allah
Di atas segala limpahan rezekiMu
Namun, aku takut…aku takut
Bila datang waktu nanti aku
Lupa untuk bersyukur padaMu
Di waktu kesusahan, di waktu kepayahan
Sesungguhnya aku didalam nikmat kabira
Dengan itu, aku takut menjadi kufur nikmat
Ya Allah, kuatkanlah imanku ini
Tsabitkanlah hatiku ini yang berbolak balik
Ya Allah, jadikanlah aku ini
Di golongan hamba-hambaMu
Yang sentiasa bersyukur padaMu
Walau didalam keperitan
Aku ingin tetap menjadi hambaMu yang bersyukur
Di atas segala yang dilimpahi olehMu
Walau senang atau walau susah
Aku ingin sentiasa redha & bersyukur
I am thankful Oh Allah
For all your blessings
I am thankful Oh Allah
However, I am afraid…I am afraid
When a time will come
I will forget to be thankful
During times of difficulty and pain
For I am in great blessings
For that, I am afraid of being unthankful
Oh Allah strengthen me in Iman
Strengthen my heart that changes everytime
Freedom….. April 3, 2010
Posted by globetrekkerdiaries in Uncategorized.3 comments
What is freedom? Everyone has their own definitions. From a school child, to a teenager, to an adult…each have their own definition(s). A school child might consider the last school bell’s ring indicating the end of the day as freedom. The teenager, who is sometimes full of angst, might consider freedom to be the permission granted by his parents or guardian to attend a friend’s overnight barbecue gathering. To an adult, freedom might simply mean, no “boss” breathing down his neck.
But…freedom to a Believer, a Muslim, definitely has more to it than just a superficial significance.
So what is this word freedom, when you try to find out its very essence?
Is it true when you get to attached to the world, the more you lose your freedom?
What is this?? Well, when you get to attached to the world (dunya), and love it so much that you cling to it, as though you will live forever, you actually have no freedom. You are binded by the World which offers false happiness.
But wait…don’t go finding a cave to retreat and wait till the end of the world. Islam forbids us to totally say our goodbyes to the world. That is not what Islam teaches us. We have to strike a balance between this worldly life and the thereafter (akhirat)….
May Allah SWT be with us always and may we each attain our real FREEDOM… Ameen!

When you have those around you…
All going towards the same direction…
Towards the truth…towards being closer to God;
How beautiful is life…
Even though your dearest family is faraway…
You have your kins in Islam…
Dearest friends, Ukhuwah fy Allah;
How beautiful is life….
When you cross into the paths of people…
With different colours, different cultures, different countries…
And you speak one language…the language of Jannah (Heaven);
How beautiful is life…
When you are in this blessed land…
Where ‘ilm (knowledge) is aplenty…
Where everyone rushes to seek knowledge;
How blessed is this life
May we always be among those who have contentment in life
Ya Allah, you are our Protector, help us against those who stand against Faith….

Peace Be Upon All of You
“It’s About Time…”
Time
This word is something we use so often in our daily life. “What time is it?”, “Have you got some time for me?”, “What time does classes start today?”
So what is the significance of time? Allah swears in the Qur’an by time in Surah Al-’Asr, Verses 1-3.
Bismillah Ar-Rahman Ar-Rahim
1. By Al-’Asr (the time).
2. Verily! Man is in loss,
3. Except those who believe (in Islamic Monotheism) and do righteous good deeds, and recommend one another to the truth
SadaqaAllah Al-Adzim
Time is precious in Islam.
If one already knows the Quran, one would know that in the last parts i.e. Juz Amma, Allah swears by important things, in this case, Time. Examples are Surah Al-Fajr, Surah Al-Lail, Surah Ad-Duha and of course Surah Al-Asr. Allah would never swear by something if it does not carry any importance.
As a Muslim, what do you notice about your time? Your daily life…monthly…annually.
Let’s look at daily life first.
Solah (5 daily prayers – Fajr, Duhr, Asr, Maghreb, Isha’). What do you notice about this? It’s like a schedule! That means Muslims will be consciously remembering the Creator, Allah Subhanahu wa Taala. 5 times in a day, you pray and when you pray, it’s just between you and your Creator. How beautiful this feeling is, subhanaAllah!
Next, look at Months. What do we have in Islam? In fasting every Ramadhan, we are following a schedule. But of course, is only the month of Ramadhan important? Don’t forget we also have Muharram (10 Asyura), Rabi ul Awwal, Rejab and Syaaban among others.
Next look at the Annual aspect…We have the month of Hajj (Zulhijjah) where those who can afford it, will do Hajj (pilgrimage). Most importantly, let us not forget the yearly Zakah (tithe) or paying of alms/charity to the poor. Sadly, many close an eye to this aspect. Maybe they have forgotten that this is also one of the pillars of Islam. It’s time we wake up and realise that all the monies and richness we have is not ours totally, and we should not forget that the poor have a right over it as well….
The Time Is Now
We cannot deny that time is going so fast, like the wind. However, no matter what, time is short. Ultimately, in the end, DEATH will come. Although it might not be easy for some to grasp this reality, it is REALITY that every living thing will taste death ultimately. Do you know that especially when death is coming to a person, time will pass by even much faster.
Why do you have to value time?
Time, once it passes you by, will never come back again. Whatever you do, you will never get it back…Time can never be bought.
AN IGNORANT PERSON IS ONE WHO DOES NOT VALUE TIME. One who is “kufr ni’ma” (meaning: unthankful to Allah), is one who doesn’t spend his time well.
May Allah SWT protect us all from being among those who are in ignorance….
The Salafussoleh (righteous Muslims), take care of their time, such that they take care of time better than they take care of their health or money.
So dear readers, the phrase, “How to Kill Time” and all its likes are really totally misguided. Because a true Muslim, would never have such a situation where he/she gets bored because of “too much time in my hands”.
Every single minute, should be spent wisely, in the way of Allah. One should remember Allah (zikr), read the Quran, read books…everything, except spending it on things of no importance.
Remember, the enemy of Youth is when you do nothing in your Youth! “Free time” is very dangerous for the Youth.
The person who does nothing good in his time, Syaitan (the devil) will make you of its family.
Till then, I will inshaAllah continue again in my next entry. All that is good from this entry is from Allah SWT and what is bad is from my weakness…
from the beating of a heart… January 27, 2010

SPECIAL STORY!
From the beating of the heart…..
SubhanaAllah, the story I’m going to share is based on a true story…
I had always been inquisitive, or rather, am always inquisitive when I see or hear of people who became Muslim out of their own choice. This is because, all of their stories of how Islam came to them and how Allah the Most Beneficient bestows light onto their hearts are always so touching and amazing….
Rewind…8 years ago…in Japan, a modern country with the latest technology everytime and the fast paced life. The country where Sonys, Toyotas, Toshibas are born.
I am very privileged to get to know a sister from Japan. She became Muslim 8 years ago. It was from reflection that opened up the door to the truth. From just a mere thought on, “Why am I on this earth? What is the purpose of living?”. From there, things started to fall into place. Though, at that time she didn’t even know about Islam. As you know, Islam wasn’t something that was common in Japan 8 years ago. Things are changing now though….
Anyway, back to this sister from Japan…one day she was watching a documentary on TV, and it was about a foetus in a woman’s womb. The foetus was of a certain size where the heart could be seen beating clearly even though it wasn’t fully formed. This documentary made her suddenly feel her own heart and it was also beating. She felt that this was too amazing and there must be a Creator for all this. She was thinking, although it is her heart, she has no control over it. She can’t make it stop and beat again even if only for a second.
Not too long after that, she and her friend went to travel to Spain to visit another friend. Since Morocco was just a “straits” away, just 30 minutes across the Straits of Gibraltar** to be exact, she and her friend crossed over into nearby Morocco. In Morocco…people there said Allah (God) is the Creator. She felt lost because she thought, “Who is Allah?”. She has never heard of such a kalimah (word).
When she returned to Japan, she bought a copy of the translation of the Qur’an, in Japanese. From there, all is history…she became Muslim in a Masjid (mosque) in Japan in 2001.
Takbir! Allahu Akbar! (God is Great! )
Islam also brought her to Syria and next month after spending 7 years in Syria, she will return to Japan as she has finished her studies here. MashaAllah, she has an Ijazah (Certification) in the Sciences of the Qur’an i.e. Tajweed, Qiraat (Reading). She has also finished her Degree in the Faculty of Da’wah in one of the Islamic instituitions here.
Although she will return to Japan for good, she will still come back to Syria to visit her younger sister, who became Muslim 2 years ago and is now taking a Diploma in Islamic Studies and is in her 2nd year. SubhnaAllah!
Ukhti Aminah, may Allah always be with you. Japan needs you for propagating Islam in its truest form. Islam, the religion of peace. Islam, the way of Life…..Allahu Akbar!
Salam and Peace Be Upon You All… =)
Truth stands out from falsehood.
Let there be no compulsion in religion.
**<<History Tip!: Gibraltar is actually from Arabic, but the English or the Spaniards changed it from ‘Jabal Tareq’ to Gibraltar. For more history, look up for Tareq ibn Ziyad, a Muslim who crossed with his Army from Morocco (Al-Maghreb) in 711 A.D. into Andalusia (modern day Andalucia in Spain)…and from there Islam spread in Andalucia and other parts of Spain flourished under Islamic rule, for 700 years…until the Crusaders came. You can also watch a video here :

Also, lookout for Tareq ibn Ziyad’s statement to his Army…it is very touching!>>

Assalamu alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu
SubhanaAllah (All praises be to Allah). Without me realising, its been 2 months since I left my country for this blessed Dimashq in Syam.
In this entry let me share with you about the neighbourhood where I’m staying. Where I’m staying, is called, “Rukn-Ud-Deen”. Literally translated from Arabic to English, it means, “Street of Religion”. In this neighbourhood, there’s a lot of foreigners of different nationalities residing here and almost all are seekers of knowledge.
I’m fortunate to get to know sisters from USA, Nigeria, Guinea, Mali, Somalia, England, Denmark, Germany, Russia, South Korea, Japan, China, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and of course, Singapore. Not forgetting the locals too, whom are ever so friendly and happy to receive you here, mashaAllah. There were a a few times in the masjid (mosque), where I got approached by ladies asking me where I’m from and whether I’m seeking knowledge. There are also non-Muslims who come to learn Arabic here. Personally, I know of two; one from Brazil and one from Taiwan. MashaAllah, out of respect, they don the hijab (tudung) in class! Even though our teacher ask them to loosen or take out their hijab in class, they declined….Amazing!
There had been also many funny moments where ‘d been approached by sisters from China and usually their question is “Zhong Guo”? (China?). There were also many times when I was approached by locals and they mistook me for an Indonesian, “Indonesie”? or Malaysian “Malisie?”. Even Indonesians also have mistaken me for being Indonesian. That explains my Javanese roots, I guess…
Till then, till I write again inshaAllah….

Assalamu alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu
(Peace Be Upon You), to all my Brothers and Sisters in Islam and also my Brothers and Sisters in Humanity who are not Muslims.
Bismillah Ar-Rahman Ar-Rahim
(In the name of God, Most Gracious Most Merciful)
How have you all been? I pray that all of you my dearest visitors to this little blog is in the best of health and imaan (faith). Ameen.
Certainly it’d been quite some time since I last updated this blog of mine. InshaAllah (God-willing) today, I will share a little of the knowledge I’ve gotten. It will be handy if you have a copy of the Qur’an with you or the translation, while reading this blog of mine. You can view one online: http://www.quranexplorer.com/quran/
Give, even if you know a little:-
One of my teachers (may Allah bless her) here said something the other day, and it made me realise the importance of giving and sharing knowledge. Especially if you have learnt good knowledge, you should not keep it to yourself. Share and spread the good knowledge to the best of your ability, even though how little it might be.
The topic of worship (Ibadah).
So, what is worship? What is the concept of worship? Is it just about acknowledging God?
(Note to my non-Muslim brothers and sisters: In the Arabic Language, God is pronounced as Allah. Also note that non-Muslims Arabs also use “Allah” to denote God. I will use the word Allah throughout my blog.)
In Islam, worship is obedience to Allah. We must always strive to be better Muslims in the sense of being “insan Rabbani”. You can be one by loving Allah Subhanahu Wa Taala with all your heart. As you all know, Islam is about Faith AND the works. Hmmmm… Faith AND the works? What’s that supposed to mean?
In Islam, it is not enough if you just profess:- “I Love Allah.”, but your actions are contrary to that. Maybe just for the simplest of an example: If you love something, you will show your affection for it. For example, a “Muslim” might say he loves Allah but he does things that will incur the wrath of Allah. For example:
- slacking in his daily 5 prayers
- does not fast in the month of Ramadhan
- does not pay zakat or give to charity
- engaging in vice,
- mixing freely with the opposite sex a.k.a hedonistic lifestyle,
- rude to parents and/or the elderly,
- is arrogant/boastful
- steals/rob
- abuses himself (alcholic/drug abusers/suicidal tendencies),
- causes harm to another human(s)
and the list goes on…
When you love Allah, you will do it from the heart. No one tells you to.
You will fully submit yourself to the will of Allah and its only to Allah that you put your trust in. (Tawakkal)
Have no fear of all other human beings. They can never harm you except by the will of Allah. Be steadfast in your 5 daily prayers and your remembrance of Allah (Dhikr).
Remember, in the Holy Qur’an, Surah 13 Ar-Raad (Thunder), Verse 28: “Those who believe and whose hearts find rest in the remembrance of Allah, Verily in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find spiritual tranquility.
On trials and tribulations of life, just as a reminder again.
My dear friends, many a time we have been distraught because of some pitfalls in life. As a human being, no one is left free without tests, trials and tribulations in their life. If we do not have strong faith, we might be drowned in our sorrows, and Allah forbid, we might even start questioning Allah on why such trials are being brought upon us.
Rejoice my dear Brothers and Sisters! For as true Believers, one should not feel accursed or unfortunate if trials or tribulations come by. Remember, in the Holy Qur’an, Surah 2 Al-Baqarah (The Heifer), a part of Verse 286: Allah burdens not a person beyond his scope…”
In the same verse there’s this prayer (doaae) we should all memorise and read consistently. The translation is, “Our Lord! Put not on us a burden greater than we have strength to bear.”
Till then, I will inshaAllah continue again in my next entry. All that is good from this entry is from Allah SWT and what is bad is from my weakness…

Happy Eid, Selamat Hari Raya! September 26, 2009

Didalam kesunyian ku rasa gelombangnya
Kesepian ini terlalu indah
Walaupun pahit untuk menelan
Walaupun pedih, sanggup ku tabah dah meredhainya…
Dengan sayap impian
Inginku terbang kesana….

“Kak Yan…bangun Kak, cepat tukar baju…”
Aku melihat jam…7.45pagi…maklumlah “cuti” jadi tak bangun sahur….ahli hujrati pun masih ngantuk2, lalu siap.
Aku menyarung abaya dan memakai telukung sangking malas nak membelit tudung dikepala ku…huhuhu
Ammu abdelmajed dan beberapa lagi orang lelaki arab sudah pun berada diluar rumah kami disebalik pintu, mereka pun memberi wang sadaqah kepada kami disebalik pintu…
Ya Allah! Bukannya sikit, banyak…1000 lira syria seorang…
Inilah dinamakan rezqi dari Allah SWT…
Moga Allah SWT membalas jasa baik para penderma semua…ameen.
Blessings of Ramadhan … hadha min fadli Robbi…alhamdulillah :) September 2, 2009

45 kg of Misr rice (Egyptian rice)
30 kg of sugar
120 eggs
8 bottles of cooking oil
Packets of pasta
Assorted halawiyats (sweets)
and the list goes on…too many to write
These are the gifts / sadaqah that we receive from the generous locals here! For we are Talibatul ‘ilm ( seekers of knowledge), they chose to give alms during this blessed month to assorted students from around the world. My house is very lucky to receive these provisions.
Alhamdulillah

Alhamdulillah (all praises be to God), its been 16 days since I arrive here in this blessed land of Syam. Also, today is the 8th day of the fasting month. Alhamdulillah here, one becomes mujtahidah (hardworking) yakni (that is), you will never want to miss a single Solat Tarawih everynight…alhamdulillah
Where I’m staying, is called Rukn ad Deen. Here, they call Masjids (Mosques) – Jamiع
My house is very very near to 5 Jamiع, yakni: 1) Jamiع AbuNour, 2) Jamiع BouTi 3) Jamiع Musa Sukkar 4) Jamiع Hanabila 5) Jamiع Muhyiddin. In Jamiع Muhyiddin there is the Maqam of Sheikh Muhyiddin (rahimullah).
Time check: 1.14 pm…I was supposed to go to the Souq (in Arabic it means market/shops), but somehow my legs made a detour to this CC very near to the souqs…
Ok, I shall take my leave now… tonight, there is an invitation to break fast at a fellow Singaporean sister’s house abt 30 mins away from where I’m staying…But most probably I cannot attend…because I haven’t finished my HOMEWORK!!!!! Arrghh
Illaliqae (Till we meet again)

Alhamdulillah, it’s been almost 2 weeks since I set foot upon Damascus… It has been very interesting to be living in this almost desert land where there had been no rain for many many months. The weather has been very hot when I came, but now it is slowly turning slightly milder, with cold winds in the early morning and at night. Blessing of the fasting month….soubhanaAllah…
Autumn will come soon…
The people of Damascus: Well, from what I see, the people here are very good looking (handsome and beautiful) and also they are helpful. There’s about 90% Muslims here in Damascus, with the remaining being either Druze or Christians.
Dressing: I must say, almost 99% Muslim women here wear the hijab, (also known as tudung back home). If you wear short sleeved or short skirts or tight jeans here you are bound to seek “unwanted attention” i.e. it will be obvious that you look different from the rest
Overall, Damascus indeed is a blessed land as it is part of “Syam”. Prophet Muhammad (may peace be upon him), had made dua’a for blessing in the land of Syam (modern day Damascus, part of Jordan and also part of Palestine).
I take my leave now, with a beautiful picture….guess what is it?? Hehe…its actually special food made during the fasting month here…like a big cracker doused with date syrup…. we call it “keropok ramadhan”
My apologies for delays in updating, as not all cybercafes (CCs) allow access to Facebook and WordPress.

As-Salāmu `Alaykum
Sometimes I start to ponder and also get some positive vibes as a result of all the pondering. Wondering what the positive vibes are?
They are of course, about my journey to gain knowledge. People might view me as a romancer or a daydreamer. I’m neither! I will make this happen, inshaAllah.
I am seriously counting my finances now. InshaAllah, what I have will be enough for about 12 months worth of studies and stay (incl all expenses, trips) in Damascus.
Ana al-faqeer ya Allah. Illahi anta maqsudi wa ridaka matlubi.
Ya Allah, help me. Help me realise my dreams of studying in Syria. Ameen.
